Good Bye 2008.....Hello '09

So its New Years Eve and here I am at home catching up on blogging. Yes its official - I'm old, and thats okay. I enjoy being at home in my jammies!! So Brad, Cooper, Casey, Charlie and I will bring in the new year probably playing the Price Is Right on the wii.

This year has had some good changes - first starting with me moving hospitals from the Moore campus to the Norman campus. It was the best change I could have made. I love, love, love my job. I love the atmosphere, the people are awesome and the work is easy. And with a new job has come new friends. I have met so many cool people through work. Second is we got a puppy - Mr. Charlie Bean - um what else happened - oh I finally think I've decided what I want to be when I grow up - an ER nurse, hope to return to school in the summer - Brad and I celebrated our 3 yr anniversary, which I can not believe its been that long. My cousin David came to visit us.... Those are just a few big things that fell in between day to day life in the Bridgeford home.

I hope everyone one has a safe and Happy New Year!!

No Excuses!

I am going to start a routine which includes going to the gym and waking up b/f noon. Now this just happens to fall around the new year but it is not a new years resolution. My pants have gotten tight once again and not just regular pants but my pajamas too. You know its bad when your pj's start feeling uncomfortable. I have no excuses any longer now that I have 4 days off a week.!!

I will let you know how this turns out!

The Best Christmas Gift.

So every year when we open our Christmas gifts there is always one that stands out as a favorite. Sometimes its something that you may have asked for over and over and your finally receive it. Or its a gift given to you that you never knew you wanted until you received it. This year Brad's mom gave us a new welcome mat and it was the best gift I've received this year.

Yes people we want to make you aware that we have a killer 13lb mini dachshund living at our house...enter at your own risk.

p.s. it took me many many tries to get this picture!!

Remembering Bob

I was given the bad news Sunday morning that my godfather had passed away Saturday night somewhat unexpectedly. Bob was a wonderful man and I was lucky enough to have him a part of my life growing up. He just lived next door to my parents so when I was younger I would go over there and he would let me play frogger on his computer or we would sit and talk about life and school. He went to a lot of my softball games growing up and he was Santa clause and the Easter bunny long after I knew the truth. He was the one that encouraged me to enjoy reading by giving me a book and a stuffed animal for the holidays during my pre.teen years. He was at all the major events in my life, first communion, 8th grade & high school graduation (8th grade shown above), my wedding, and every single birthday dinner up until a few years ago.

Bob was diagnosed w/ polio at the age of 5 which left him handicapped. He still pursued living an independent life by modifying his truck so that he could drive w/ his left foot. He also graduated from OU w/ an engineering degree. He never married and never had kids and was a HUGE OU football fan. He was diagnosed w/ a heart condition about 6 years back and b/c of his polio the doctors were unable to operate they only gave him a few years to live. Well he lived longer then expected and was in pretty good health considering. Bob passed away on the 27th after falling ill a week before. His mother and his sister were by his side. Even in his last moments he was thinking of others, his sister stated that he was saying "tell my friends I'm sorry I couldn't say good bye." He was the most giving, thoughtful person I ever knew and he will be missed greatly.

Do You Remember When Life Was Simple

I found this list online and it made me have a few flash backs to my childhood so I thought I'd post it to give you guys a memory jog....

Remember.....

Before the Internet & text messaging.

Before Sidekicks & iPods.

Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX.

Before the 5 hours of homework you put off every night.

WHEN LIGHT UP SNEAKERS WERE KOOL

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.

When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.

When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

Way back......

Tag.

Get Over Here!!!! means something to you.

Hide-n-Go Seek in the dark.

Red Light, Green Light.

Heads Up 7 Up. (played this game in school a lot)

Playing Kickball & Dodgeball even Wallball.

Hopskotch.

Slip-n-Slides.

Tree Houses.

Hula Hoops.

Reading R.L. Stine's Goose Bumps and the Baby Sitters Club.

The annoying Nano Pets & Furbies.

Running through the sprinklers.

Crying when Mufasa died in the Lion King.

Happy Meals where you chose a Barbie or a Hot Wheels car.

Getting the privelage to sit in the front seat of the car.

Drinking Sqeeze It "Squeeze The Fun Out Of It"

Wait....

Watching Saturday Morning Cartoons in your PJ's still wrapped up in your Garfield comforter.

Hey Arnold

Doug

Rugrats.

The original Power Rangers

Or what about:

Ren & Stimpy.

Double Dare.

Rocko's Modern Life.

AAAHH!! REAL MONSTERS.

Clarissa Explains it All.

salute your shorts

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

The original cast members of all that.

hey dude.

hangin with mr.cooper.

bill-nye the science guy.

Who could forget Snick? & Nick @ Nite
with Bewitched, I Dream of Jenie, The Facts of Life & I Love Lucy.

Where everyone wanted to be in love after watching
The Wonder Years.

NINJA TURTLES

...

Kool-Aid was the drink of choice.

Wearing your new shoes on the first day of school.

Class field trips.

POGS

When Christmas was the most exciting time of year.

When $5 seemed like a million, & another dollar a miracle.

When Toys R Us was the best place to be.

Go back to the time when....

Decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'.

Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming 'do over!'

'Race issue' ment arguing about who ran the fastest.

Money issues were handled by whoever was banker in 'Monopoly'.

It wasn't odd to have two or three 'best' friends.

Being old referred to anyone over 20.

A chance to skate as a couple at the local roller rink was like winning the lottery.

Scrapes & bruises were kissed & made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enought to ride the 'big people' rides at the fair.

When playing Nintendo was the hardest thing ever.

When Ninja Turtles ruled the world.

When Lisa Frank was the raddest thing ever.

When a candy bar at the grocery store was the highlight of your day.

When the only thing you cried over was your mom being late to pick you up.

When stress was addition and subtraction.

When friendships were as complicated as who's house to sleep over and who's to TP

When shaving cream was just meant for play.

When a first kiss only lead to cooties.

When valentines day meant cards for all.

When birthdays were a class event.

When a friend moving away was the saddest day of your life.

maybe even when your friends didnt break off into different crowds, you were all one group.

Sad Way To Start My Day

So my day at work started pretty crappy today - first this is a sad story from the ER that does not end well - second some background info... yesterday we had a young man who was 17 come into our ER for a psych evaluation w/ his mother. And it is my understanding is that b/c he was a minor we could not admit him anywhere nor was there anywhere to send him, again b/c of his age. Normally if you come in for this type of visit you will either be admitted to our behavioral medical floor in the hospital or to Griffin Memorial Psychiatric Hospital which is like a block away ---- anyways I personally did not have any contact w/ him other then just seeing him pass in the hall but I remember him. Today I came into work and I am notified that he had taken his own life by shooting himself. Now I can honestly say that there is only one other time that a death has bothered me while working in the emergency room - for some reason this one got me - I think it was b.c i just saw him - I remember what his shirt looked like and everything - it rattled me to the core -- it is just so sad that he felt that by ending his life was the only way out and my prayers go out to him and his family and friends.

* it also makes me wonder on how he got his hands on a gun when his parent knew of his mental status - not placing blame - just curious.

Video vs. Reading

Its really ironic when you find that someone else feels the same way you do about something so unimportant in life and they make a cartoon about it. I hate videos on the internet - if you email them to me or post them nine times out of ten do not watch them. I just feel like im wasting my time for some reason, don't know why but I do. Ive never gotten into the whole "YouTube" craze. Then i found this cartoon a few weeks ago and it cracked me up!! - I too am trying to look at the internet covertly at work!! Just the other day I was at work looking on msnbc and there was a story that I wanted to read but all they had was the stupid video - so I was unable to hear about it b/c we are NOT suppose to be on the internet at work - hehehe - and a video w/ sound would have totally blown my cover.

Just a random thought.....

my current craze

currently i am addicted to playing mario galaxy on the wii. if you were ever one who enjoyed the old mario games as a child then i highly suggest this game!! you have to go around collecting stars to open up new planets - some levels are almost 3-D and would look way awesome if i had a better tv. the camera angles are not what you expect which makes it difficult at times when your running upside down. so far ive been able to change into bee mario and a ghost mario to disappear and go through walls and ive completed 2 galaxies.....if you have a wii i totally suggest you check out this game!!

blogging has become a fun thing for me...however i don't know about you guys but i come up w/ my best blog ideas when im trying to go to sleep and then i go and sit in front of the computer the next day and i just get writers block. ive also started reading complete strangers blogs which i find surprisingly interesting. there is one that my friend jaimie follows - probably one of her friends - but its so funny its about his experiences as a waiter - it cracks me up!!

i finally got addicted to my book last night at work - thank god b/c its like 800 pgs - so this week on my days off i am going to make myself read. i have found it so difficult to read when i am at home! i either get bored and find something else to do or i fall asleep. when i worked overnights there was a lot of downtime and i was reading a book a week and i loved it. to me its a sense of accomplishment to finish a book. now i can't read a work as much so im having to find time at home. current read angels and demons by dan brown.

this last one isn't quite a craze yet....but im trying really hard to make it one -- going to the gym! now that i have 4 days off a week there is no excuse for me not to go! i have plenty of time - the first week was awesome! i felt great, i thought about it and wanted to go! the second week i didn't go at all.... i didn't feel good last week so i missed the gym completely. this week im going to try my hardest to get back in there... i have learned i only like to go to the gym by myself. i've tried going w/ friends or w/ brad and i just don't like it! im not as focused and i feel like i have to accommodate them.

Its A Dogs Life

Name: Cooper Maxwell
AKA - weenie, schnooper, cooper the pooper
Age - 9yrs
Hobbies - chasing his favorite ball, laying w/ his mama, swimming, sleeping

Cooper is my first born. He was a christmas gift to me and it was love at first sight! He is a dachshund weimaraner mix from the pound. Crazy mix i know - he is just like me neurotic w/ a slight case of OCD. Cooper is my soul puppy he has been threw hell and back w/ me!

Name: Casey Duke
AKA - dookie, chubbs, k-digz, big K
Age - 11yrs
Hobbies - sleeping, chewing on his bone, barking, sunbathing, seeing how many cookies he can get in one day.

Casey is a beagle basset mix that i picked up off the streets of stillwater. a lady was chasing him down the street when i caught him and took him back to her (thinking he was hers) it turned out she was just getting him out of her trash. so i took him home b/c he had a vet tag on - called the vet found out he had been on the streets for awhile - so i kept him...8 years later and i don't regret it one bit. i have watched his personality change from an independent free spirit to a cuddley love bug!

Name: Charlie Bean
AKA - bean butt, monkey, beans
Age - 10months
Hobbies - running EVERYWHERE, biting caseys back legs, sitting in the window like a cat, chewing on his toys

Charlie is the newest addition to the family - he is a full mini dachshund. i got him b/c my other two were getting older and i thought they needed a little energy to keep them young. casey and charlie actually play together the most its so fun to watch them wrestle w/ one another. charlie is our comic relief - hes always up to something.

my favorite thing in the world is to watch these 3 interact w/ one another. how they play, fight, tease and love each other. they are my fur kids and i don't know what i would do w/o them.
